I've always had a huge phobia and it hurts to open the door to the dentist's office. Lol. The last two dentists that I frequented used to prescribe a valium or xanax to take half hour before the visit and it turned me into a model patient. No problem! The drawback is that you'll need someone to drive you home afterwards.
You and me are in the same boat when it comes to dentists. I actually lose my sleep the night before. In October when I had the check and cleaning I got the left side done, with 6 injections and 2 weeks later the right side with 7 injections. Fillings I need any where form 2 to 3 injections per session.

Pulling is another story I will probably need Xanax too, I know once they numb you in the area of action you will not feel anything but it's a phpbia I have had since child hood.

My dentist suggested Xanax to me before my root canal because I was not too comfortable about the idea, but I wondered if it would cause problems with the chemicals in the injections so I opted out, it was not so much pain but along procedure.
I didn't have any issues with drug interaction. The injection is just novocaine to numb the local area. It used to take 2 trips to get my teeth cleaned because they had to numb me and I would damn near rip off the armrests with my death grip as my blood pressure went thru the roof. I wish I would have requested drugs years ago.
2 trips just to get the teeth cleaned sounds one too many, I go every 6 months for my check up and every year I get the cleaned it takes 30-40 minutes.
You are absolutely right. A cleaning is nothing to lose sleep over. I know it's irrational but phobias rarely make any sense. It is what it is.

I've gone thru child birth, 4 surgeries where they cut bits and pieces out of me, a bout of cancer back in 89, needles shoved into my breast in a 2nd cancer scare in 95 and none of this scared me as bad as opening the dentist office door. All I can say is thank God for valium and xanax :)

I had all mine taken out in 7 sittings. If you think getting fillings is bad, dentures are way worse. You have to wash them every time you eat, stick them back on, it is a chore and a half. Take good care of your teeth, when you do not have them you will miss them.

Never but I know one day it is bound to happen, no one keeps all their teeth till they die.

This got me thinking just now, how much pain will be involved in taking out all 32, jesus that is a scary idea. And the cost, at even $150 a pop that's $4800 bucks. Just guessing $150 not sure what they cost to be yanked out the mouth. I know I paid $150 for a tooth to be filled last year.

Here is what I will do if I have to get one pulled. Ask the dentist for an Ativan tablet, take it 15 minutes before walking into his office and put my Airpods on listen to some music. I had Ativan when I broke my arm 3 years ago, it helped.

Once they jab you numb what is the difference if they fill or extract a tooth?
Just asking because I have never had a tooth extracted, it must be anxiety more than anything else getting people worked up over an extraction.
