have you ever had a tooth extracted

#1

Post by Abby » April 10th, 2021, 9:18 am

Monday afternoon I am having my wisdom tooth extracted, my dentist told me it will not hurt more than the filling he gave me this week. How can it not hurt more than a filling when they pull a tooth, is he just saying this to make me calm down?

Oh and what about when the affects of the injections wear off in a few hours, will it be very painful and keep on bleeding for hours or days?

One more question why do we have wisdom teeth in the first place he said mine was partially out of the gum and no where to grow out normally.

Please be honest if it really hurts having it out tell me.

Abby I had one out about 25 years ago, and not did not hurt and the thing was not painful afterwards, just a discomfort you can take a couple of Advils or Tylenol's and the pain will be bearable. Let me tell you something, a lot of the guys here know from my past posts, I am the biggest chicken when it comes to going to the dentist. I would rather have an endoscopy and colonoscopy than sit in the dentists chair. And I have had both those procedures.
So take my word it will not hurt. Once yoyr mouth is numb they can pull, fill whatever they want and you will not feel it.

All the best, keep us updated how it goes.

Not had any teeth taken out but I can imagine it will hurt, how can it not hurt wen you are removing a tooth. I get a paper cut on my finger and that hurts.

Good luck tomorrow.

I had all 4 of mine taken out when I was 23, I was out while they did it, I had the option to be put into a twilight state by IV and opted for it. Glad you are on the mend now.

My mother always said teeth are like pot luck, you either end up with a good set or a bad set. To answer the OP no never had any out, I do have 3 fillings. They were not that bad when I had them done.

I've always had a huge phobia and it hurts to open the door to the dentist's office. Lol. The last two dentists that I frequented used to prescribe a valium or xanax to take half hour before the visit and it turned me into a model patient. No problem! The drawback is that you'll need someone to drive you home afterwards.

My dentist suggested Xanax to me before my root canal because I was not too comfortable about the idea, but I wondered if it would cause problems with the chemicals in the injections so I opted out, it was not so much pain but along procedure.

I didn't have any issues with drug interaction. The injection is just novocaine to numb the local area. It used to take 2 trips to get my teeth cleaned because they had to numb me and I would damn near rip off the armrests with my death grip as my blood pressure went thru the roof. I wish I would have requested drugs years ago.

2 trips just to get the teeth cleaned sounds one too many, I go every 6 months for my check up and every year I get the cleaned it takes 30-40 minutes.
